On the first day of spring, the sun will be shining equally on both halves of the Earth, explains.īut next year, spring will come a whole calendar day early, with the first day falling on March 19, for the first time since the 1800s. The spring equinox occurs when the sun crosses the equator line going north, resulting in longer and warmer days for those living in the Northern Hemisphere. Known as the spring equinox, the day marks the end of winter, and brings hope for warmer weather. Visiting Stonehenge this year for the Spring Equinox Celebrations? What exactly are the quarter festivals? And why are these occasions so celebrated by the Druids? The Quarter Festivals and the Druids Public access to Stonehenge currently takes place on four of the so-called ‘quarter festivals’. English Heritage open to the paying public as normal at 9.30am. Stonehenge is expected to open at 5.45am when it was deemed light enough to safely allow people into the field and visitors must leave by 8.30am. Organisers also have a ban on bringing glass bottles or pets onto the site and on playing amplified music. Anyone can turn up on the day to get close to the stones, but people are asked not to touch or climb on them. English Heritage has ‘managed open access’, meaning the public can stand among the stones on these days. This is only on the mornings of the summer solstice, winter solstice, spring equinox and autumn equinox. The famous Stonehenge circle is normally roped off to the public, but special access is granted four times a year. WHY CAN PAGANS AND DRUIDS GET SO CLOSE TO THE STONES FOR THE EQUINOX? The equinox, (the Latin word for Equinox means time of equal days and nights) is only the very moment the sun crosses the equator. This is the point of the year when once again day and night are equal – 12 hours. This is the first of the four ‘sky points’ in our Wheel of the Year and it is when the sun does a perfect balancing act in the heavens. Equinox open accesses attract fewer people than the Solstices – in the several hundreds rather than tens of thousands – and there are modern Druid ceremonies which are held in the circle around dawn. The spring equinox is one of the rare occasions that English Heritage opens up the stones for public access. Sunrise is at 6:11am, and access will commence as soon as it is safe, this is likely to be from approximately 5:45am and will end at 8:30am. English Heritage are expected to give a short period of managed open access on the 21st March.

Like the fortress that inspired it, the Masada is a fistful of defiance.įor more info visit View the the Masada in action with Dr. Securing a place among the Uzi, Galil, Jericho and Tavor, the Masada is a simply legendary defensive tool. The Masada is crafted from the drawing board to the holster to be a weapon to which you might reliably entrust your life. The Israelis just don’t make substandard firearms. What’s more, with an MSRP of $480 the Masada is about a c-note cheaper than the competition. It is also fun to shoot and surgically accurate. The gun is as easy to carry and conceal as is any full-sized high-capacity pistol and is as reliable as the tides. The IWI Masada was contrived for the singular mission of gunfighting. As a result, these guys really know how to build weapons. Humans have been fighting over this remarkable piece of dirt for millennia now and I don’t see things changing anytime soon. Violence is an unfortunate but pervasive part of life in the Holy Land. If their weapons were concealed, the little curly cord lanyards typically gave them away. When I was there, every concierge at every hotel was armed as were the front staff at shopping centers and museums. The pistol can naturally be disassembled and maintained without tools. The heart of the Masada is its removeable serialized high-grade steel trigger module. The slide stop lever and magazine release are perfectly replicated on both sides of the gun. The Masada comes with two 17-round drop-free magazines. Rugged steel 3-dot sights are easy to use and intuitive if needed. Four adapter plates accommodate the most common micro red dots. There is an integral Picatinny rail formed into the dust cover and the slide is cut to accept a red dot optic. Touch the trigger and it is ready to fire. Keep your finger off of the trigger and it is safe. Like any good combat handgun, this system requires no extraneous thought. The six-pound striker-fired action includes a built-in manual safety in the trigger face as well as a crisp break and abbreviated reset. The Masada is available in black, OD, and FDE. Enhanced grip texture forms the perfect interface between gun and flesh. The deep beavertail and undercut trigger guard offer the lowest possible bore axis along with an instinctive grip-to-frame angle. The Masada features a synthetic frame formed from impact-resistant reinforced polymers along with three interchangeable wrap-around backstraps. This is the spirit of the state-of-the-art Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Masada pistol. Once they finally entered the fortress they found two women and five children remaining alive out of 960 Hebrews. Over three months, the Romans laboriously constructed a siege ramp to breach the walls. Silva’s 8,000 legionaries constructed a series of camps at the base of the mountain the outlines of which can still be seen today. The entire foundation of their empire was dependent upon subservience. The Roman governor of Judaea, Lucius Flavius Silva, commanded the legion X Fretensis, and he couldn’t allow the Hebrews to prevail. This motley group consisted of soldiers, women, and children. Some 960 Sicarii rebels subsequently retreated to Masada. They razed the temple and scorched the earth. I can only imagine what it took to hump all those rocks up to the top of that thing.īy AD 73 the occupying Romans had exhausted their patience with the impertinent rebellious Hebrews. He built himself two fortified palaces there between 37 and 31 BC. Masada was the brainchild of Herod the Great. The word Masada is taken from the Hebrew metsada meaning “fortress.” The fortifications of Masada are perched atop a barren plateau some twelve miles east of Arad. In Martin Campbell's incarnation of Green Lantern, Oa is depicted as a murky planet filled with tall misshapen buildings and dark red, blue, and green hues. Beyond the sheer overwhelming prospect that comes with being chosen as a savior of the galaxy, Jordan is immediately taken to an unknown planet with thousands of alien life forms he has never seen or even knew to exist. Throughout Jordan's Green Lantern training he experiences more fear than he has ever known, testing the limits of his mental fortitude. As an adult, Jordan continues to test the limits of his mortality by working as a military test pilot and is eventually chosen by Abin Sur (a former Green Lantern) to replace him in the Green Lantern Corps.Ī large portion of Jordan's comic origin story then takes place on the planet Oa, the hub of the Green Lantern Corps. After losing his father in a tragic plane crash as a young child, Jordan pushes past his fear of flying to become a pilot himself. What makes Jordan unique and worthy of wearing the Green Lantern ring is not his absence of fear, but rather his ability to overcome this fear in order to bravely pursue his dreams and eventually, save humanity. Hal Jordan's journey from average earthling to intergalactic hero is precisely defined by his fear of the unknown. Lovecraftian horror is defined by the fear of the unknown over its use of gore or emphasis on shock value. With reports of Marvel hiring auteur directors such as Chloe Zhao to helm future films, DC should follow suit with young horror directors who could add an element of suspense and fantasy to the franchise. Since then, Ari Aster has invoked elements of social horror, absurdism, and comedy into his box-office hits, Hereditary and Midsommer. In 2017 Jordan Peel spearheaded the return of the social horror film with his Oscar-winning feature, Get Out. Now more than ever, horror is a malleable genre. RELATED: A Green Lantern Game Would Have a Lot of Potential Instead of leaning into gritty realism, DC should use this unique opportunity to employ a new genre that would reflect the feelings of confusion and disillusionment that this experience would cause. Green Lantern is the story of a regular human being who is suddenly thrust into an intergalactic organization beyond his wildest imagination. In the case of Green Lantern, DC should use their second chance to lean into scary, Lovecraftian action. However, as DC continues to add new superhero characters to their cinematic roster, directors should begin to experiment with different genres more befitting of their characters. Due to the overwhelming success of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy in the 2010s, DC has continued to lean into gritty realism as a means of depicting the complex and flawed characters relayed in their comic narratives. Following Ryan Reynolds failed incarnation of the Green Lantern in the comic's 2011 cinematic debut, it is high time that DC takes another shot at adapting the character to the big screen. 9/11/2023 0 Comments Alabama gifted testingIf you’re not sure which kind of gifted testing is right for you, our article Testing and Assessment for the Gifted Child reviews the differences between achievement tests and abilities assessments for gifted identification and may help you narrow down which kind of gifted testing meets your child’s needs. However, group-administered tests rarely offer in-depth information on a student’s learning profile of strengths and weaknesses, which is why many parents seek individually-administered assessments and professional evaluations instead. If a group-administered achievement test is right for you at this time, you may be able to access one through your local school district, a nearby Talent Search program, or reaching out directly to the test publisher, such as the College Board for the SAT or the American College Testing Program for the ACT. Group-administered achievement tests may be a parent’s first choice for gifted identification because they are widely available at local schools or testing centers and affordable. Many gifted programs accept group-administered achievement tests like the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or other designated standardized tests.
